Christie Falls

Tourist attractions

1871 Milford Sound Hwy, Fiordland SI

Description

Christie Falls is a multi-tiered waterfall located in the Fiordland region of New Zealand.

It plunges 15 meters into the Hollyford River valley and is surrounded by lush greenery. The waterfall is a typical cascade waterfall that is seen from the Milford Sound Highway and is located right beside a narrow single-lane bridge. Christie Falls is most impressive after a rain.

Access to Christie Falls is easy, found directly off of SH-94. From Te Anau, head north on SH-94 for 89 km. There is a small parking area near a bridge over the Falls Creek. The falls can be seen from the car park, and there are no facilities there. No walking is required to see the waterfall.

There are several other waterfalls in the area that are worth visiting, including Humboldt Falls, Sinks Bridge Waterfall, and Cleddau Valley Vistas Waterfalls. Christie Falls is best seen after a rain, so check the weather forecast before visiting. The waterfall is visible from the bridge, but if you wish, you can explore the creek upstream by doing a challenging tramping Falls Creek Route (2 hours one-way according to DOC). Many tourist buses stop on the bridge to enjoy the waterfall, so be prepared for crowds. Christie Falls is a beautiful and easily accessible waterfall that is definitely worth a visit if you are in the Fiordland region of New Zealand.
