Museums in Tennant Creek

In the Tennant Creek region of the Northern Territory, you can explore a range of museums that showcase the area's rich history, culture, and mining heritage. The Tennant Creek Gold Stamp Battery Museum and Mining Hall of Fame offers a glimpse into the mining history of the region, with historic buildings, machinery, and a working ten-stamp battery gold crushing plant that operates daily for tours. The museum also features interactive displays, rock collections, and original assay equipment.

The Battery Hill Gold Mining & Heritage Centre brings Tennant Creek's unique gold mining history to life, with heritage equipment and vehicles on display in the grounds. The center houses three museum exhibits: "Freedom, Fortitude and Flies," which looks at social life on the goldfields during the early formative years; the McLaughlin Minerals Collection, showcasing a spectacular array of minerals; and the Borella ANZAC story, a journey from Tennant Creek to Darwin and the Western Front.

Another museum in the region is the Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre, which is home to the Barkly region's art and cultural scene. Here, you can learn about the Dreamtime and the introduction of telegraph communications, mining, police, and hospital infrastructure in the region.
