Description

The Main Yarra Trail is a popular 38km long shared use path for pedestrians and cyclists that runs along the Yarra River in the northeastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

It passes through several famous landmarks and parks.

The trail begins near the mouth of the Yarra River and winds through Melbourne Docklands before continuing as an on-road cycling lane on Lorimer Street. It intersects with the Capital City Trail at the southern end of the "Koori Eel Trap" footbridge. The trail provides impressive views of the Melbourne CBD across the Yarra River and passes Federation Square, Birrarung Marr, Melbourne Park, and the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

On the north side of the river, the trail passes the historic Como House and the Royal Botanic Gardens before meeting up with the Gardiners Creek Trail in Richmond. It then reaches the Walmer Street shared pedestrian and cycle bridge, where pedestrians can walk to Fairfield Boathouse and cross the river. The trail continues to Yarra Boulevard and crosses the Yarra River again at the Gipps Street shared pedestrian and cycle bridge.

The trail passes Dights Falls and goes up the Merri Creek Trail before crossing the Eastern Freeway and reaching Melbourne Polytechnic. It then crosses the Yarra River at the pedestrian Pipe bridge at the Fairfield boathouse. An alternative to the Yarra River Trail is to follow the Yarra Boulevard, which offers access to the Studley Park boathouse.

The trail finally ends at the confluence of the Mullum Mullum Creek and the Yarra River in Templestowe. Some of the landmarks that the trail passes through are Docklands, Southbank, Yarra Bend Park, Collingwood Children's Farm, and Westerf
