Tourist attractions

Yinnar, VIC 3869

Description

Bill Welsh Park in Yinnar is named after Bill Welsh, a respected community leader and lifelong contributor to the town.

Welsh was born in Thorpdale but moved to Yinnar at a young age, where his family ran the local butcher shop for 30 years.

Welsh began playing football for Yinnar at 14 and was signed by Collingwood as a half-forward in 1950. Welsh revived the Yinnar Football Club and became the playing-coach, while also serving as a justice of the peace and commissioner for the former Morwell Waterworks Trust.

Bill Welsh Park features well-maintained gardens, playgrounds, and a picnic area. Visitors can learn about Welsh's life and community contributions through informative signage. The park is open year-round from 7 AM to 7 PM and is a great spot for a family picnic or relaxation.

To reach the park, visitors can drive through the Main Street of Yinnar, visible on the left towards Boolarra. Yinnar is approximately 2 hours east of Melbourne and accessible by car or public transport newline.
