Description

Centennial Park is a suburb located in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

It is split between the local government areas of the City of Sydney and the City of Randwick. The suburb can be divided into two parts: the western side, which is a residential area, and the eastern side, which features the Centennial Parklands. The parklands extend into the adjacent suburb of Queens Park.

Centennial Park was established in 1888 over a former water supply reserve. It was created to protect the central ponds and swamps that supplied Sydney with water. The park was funded by selling off adjacent residential lots along its western border. Strict requirements were imposed on the buildings permitted to be built in the suburb, resulting in the construction of quality homes in various architectural styles.

There are several notable heritage-listed homes in Centennial Park, including the Patrick White house, The Crossways, Devon, Murrulla, The Bungalow, Devoncliffe, Walshome, and Stanton Hall. The suburb also features heritage-listed sites such as the Centennial Park Reservoir and the Woollahra Reservoir.

According to the 2021 census, Centennial Park had a population of 2,225 people. The majority of residents were born in Australia, with English being the most common home language. The region has an Oceanic climate, characterized by warm summers and cool winters, with an average annual rainfall of around 1,200 mm.

March is typically the wettest month in Centennial Park.
