Description

Elsternwick Park South, also known as Sportscover Arena, is a popular stadium in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, for Australian rules football and cricket.

It is located in the Brighton suburb, adding to its charm and convenience. The stadium's rich history, sprawling reserve, and modern amenities make it a favorite among tourists and locals.

Elsternwick Park South is part of the larger Elsternwick Park reserve, which spans over 90 acres. Originally, this land was the Elsternwick Racecourse from 1880 to 1891. After falling into disrepair, it became known as "no-man's land." In 1903, about five acres of the reserve were transformed into the main oval, becoming the primary playing base for the Victorian Amateur Football Association.

The remaining area of Elsternwick Park was abandoned until the Elsternwick Golf Club leased it in 1910. They made significant improvements worth £13,000. When the lease expired in 1925, the Brighton Council opened the golf course to the public and turned it into a municipal nine-hole golf course. They also added a tennis club, bowls club, and more cricket and football ovals, attracting sports enthusiasts to the area. These facilities are still active today, except for the nine-hole golf course, which closed in 2018.

With its convenient location, spacious reserve, and well-equipped amenities, Elsternwick Park South is a popular destination for both tourists and locals.
