Description

Located off Heron Island, the Coral Canyons is a popular diving destination in the region.

The maze of deep gutters is just one of the many highlights that make the site unique from other dive sites. Divers can explore countless gutters that cut in and out of the reef in depth from 15 metres to 20 metres. The gutters are adorned with pretty hard and soft corals, gorgonians, and sea whips. The Coral Canyons also have many ledges to explore that are home to crayfish, squirrelfish, and tasselled wobbegong sharks. Divers can also expect to see a variety of marine life such as turtles, trevally, reef sharks, batfish, and stingrays. Additionally, the Coral Canyons is a good place for diving enthusiasts who are passionate about small reef inhabitants such as nudibranchs, octopus, shrimps, boxfish, lionfish, and gobies. The best time of year to dive in the Coral Canyons is from July to November. During this time, the water temperature is warm, and the visibility is clear, providing an excellent opportunity to explore the underwater landscape. The Coral Canyons are accessible only by boat. Visitors can arrange boat tours through several providers in the region.
