Description

Experience the culture and history of Mungalla Station and the Nywaigi people.

Come explore the property established by James Cassady, who fled the potato famine of Ireland and created a pastoral dynasty. Visit the birthplace of the world famous Droughtmaster cattle breed, the original homestead, and the graves of James Cassady and his son.

Be amazed by the story of the Aboriginal people from Mungalla Station and surrounding areas that were exhibited as cannibals and savages in the 19th century circuses and sideshows of Europe and America. Take a tour of the pictorial exhibition housed permanently in the historic homestead that tells this powerful story.

See the magnificent wetlands of Mungalla that have been restored from the depredation of introduced weeds, and witness the stunning aquatic birdlife of North Queensland. Participate in a boomerang throwing session, or enjoy our traditional underground cooking feast "Kup Murri" or the classic BIG country BBQ.
