Penguin Island- Perth’s Premier Eco tourism Destination
Located just a 5 minute ferry ride from the mainland Penguin Island lies in the crystal clear waters of the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park, just 45 minutes south of Perth. As the name suggests, Penguin Islands star attraction is the penguins, it’s home to WA’s largest colony. These fascinating little birds are very shy and rarely seen in the wild but you can get up close and learn all about them with the rangers at The Penguin Experience Discovery Centre. There are three feeding sessions a day at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm.
Apart from the penguins, the island has beautiful beaches and secluded bays perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Nature trails allow you to easily explore the island and take in scenic lookouts. There’s also a shaded, grassed area overlooking a shallow sheltered beach which is ideal for a family picnic.
Rockingham Wild Encounters operate an hourly ferry service from 9am- 4pm daily Sept 15 to early June. They also operate glass bottom boat cruises to view the sea lions of nearby Seal Island or take an adventure cruise through more of the marine park in search of wild dolphins.
