In Detail

When architect Edwin Bollig of Bollig Design Group commenced a major redevelopment of Saracen Estates Winery in Margaret River, he chose Tim Davies Landscaping as his collaborator.

Working closely with Edwin Bollig and the owner on a poetic setting for the new cellar door and Duckstein Brewery, TDL’s design melds allusions to the 18th century broad-scale English landscape tradition with a crisp, contemporary Australian aesthetic.

The brief was to create an attractive, interactive and adaptable setting for patrons, while also focusing on the operational requirements of the vineyard, to include wedding catering infrastructure and performance capabilities.

Environmental sustainability was high on the agenda, creating a landscape that respects the existing visual character and ecology of the site while minimising potential impacts on surrounding areas.

The symmetrical design includes a lake, romantic rotunda for weddings, performance platform, access to an easy-to-supervise children’s playground, and an heroic statue by Charles Smith.

The design conforms to the Caves Road precinct planning guidelines and environmental issues have been well considered with nutrient stripping ponds for catchment management.

Installation, including entry drives and carparks, was project-managed by TDL.
