Artspace Gallery is situated in the Café strip of Hampden Road, Nedlands, just a short walk from the University of Western Australia and the Swan River.
Administered by two friends who attended art school together, it shows the work of emerging and established artists at minimal cost to the artist. The gallery concentrates on local W.A. artists and keeps in touch with those living and studying art overseas, particularly young unknown practitioners. The Directors feel there is enormous talent in Western Australia, nurtured by the amazing environment and, to a certain extent by the State’s isolation. The Gallery features the high quality work of these craftspeople in the form of, jewellery, glass, enamel -work, sculpture and paintings.
Being a working studio, which also offers art classes, the public are able to interact with the painting process and hopefully feel encouraged and inspired to, either attempt, or appreciate different styles and methods of work.
The Directors have long been dedicated to the furtherance of the practice and appreciation of art and as such have been involved in several community -based art projects. This has involved, amongst other things, judging school art and speaking to young artists about promoting and marketing their own work.
The Directors like nothing better that talking about art to interested public and welcome all visitors to the Gallery.
