The Unique Old Bakery on 8th Gallery and Cafe
Our popular Old Bakery on 8th Gallery and Cafe is part of the revitalised shopping precinct and 'cafe strip' of Maylands. This cafe is unique with an adjoining art gallery and beautiful rear garden. Gallery and cafe are housed in an historic old bakery building, still with its wood-fired wall oven in place, and dating back to 1903.
Great Menu
The cafe is open daily from 7.00am to 4.00pm and offers an interesting breakfast and lunch menu as well as superb Naked Bean Coffee, Elmstock teas and cakes and slices baked daily. All food is prepared on the premises (except breads) with great care and with vegetarian and gluten-free offerings. The menu includes old favourites and specialities and variety is offered daily in 'Changeable Choices' with various pies, soups, risottos, pastas, salads and seafoods. Delicious, generously filled sandwiches, wraps and rolls are available including the 'Best BLT in Town'! The cafe garden also provides fresh herbs, lemons and limes for the kitchen.
Interesting layout and spaces
Cafe patrons can choose to eat in the cafe courtyard, the adjoining fine art and craft Gallery which is a treasure-house of beautiful gifts and artworks, or in the Cafe's rear garden which provides summer shade or winter sunshine. It is a great place to relax with friends or for small functions. After hours events can be hosted in the cafe, gallery or garden which is beautifully lit for these occasions.

'Fine Art, Fine Food and Fine Coffee'
We believe we have several 'points of difference' from other cafes in the Maylands area, including:
• the unique integration of 'Fine Art, Fine Food and Fine Coffee';
• excellent creative chefs;
• generous serves, reasonable prices and an extensive menu;
• stable, friendly and efficient staff;
• coffee from the Naked Bean Coffee Roasters in Albany;
• a fabulous asset in the lovely rear garden that is enjoyed by our cafe customers all year round;
• fresh herbs, lemons and limes grown in the garden for the kitchen;
• integration of the Cafe and Gallery with tables in the latter for customers to enjoy more air-conditioned rooms and beautiful art work while they eat. This is also a plus for special outings with new exhibitions every month;
• space for functions and business breakfasts or lunches and we host community functions;
• an historic old bakery building with its baker's oven, providing a unique ambience and a interesting venue;
• being 'pioneers' in the Eighth Ave make-over, well before the influx of trendy cafes, and have many loyal customers and a well deserved reputation for excellent casual cafe offerings; and
• a Heritage Award from the City of Bayswater for preserving the lovely old building.

'Art, Poetry & Coffee – the Perfect Blend'
Cafe Poet in Residence at the Old Bakery on 8th Gallery & Cafe??The Old Bakery on 8th Cafe is delighted to be chosen to host talented local poet Trish Robinson who can be inspired to brew up a poem to order for customers. She has dubbed this 'Espresso Verse' but there is more to Trish's support through Australian Poetry's 'Poet in Residence' program. She began her visits to the Old Bakery on 8th on 19th May and has already had positive responses from customers who chat about poetry or tell interesting stories which inspire Trish to write. This program is an Australia-wide initiative with poets working in cafes over a 6 month period.
Trish will write in the cafe, gaining inspiration, engaging with customers, answering questions about writing poetry and, if the interest is there, reading some of her poems. Customers can meet and chat with Trish over coffee. on Thursday mornings and Saturday afternoons. She will be happy to share her creativity and in her 'Espresso Verse', even create short poems for individuals on personal topics or for special occasions such as anniversaries or birthdays. The Old Bakery on 8th location with its offering of art, coffee and poetry is a 'perfect blend'.
