In DetailOpening Times

By 1977 John and Eithne Lagan had planted the first vines in what is now one of the region’s oldest vineyards. They named it Xanadu after the poem Kubla Khan by the romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

Xanadu now has a long history of producing wines of distinction. By the early Eighties it was already winning awards, and had begun establishing a reputation as one of the finest wineries in the region, a reputation that is being consolidated since the purchase of Xanadu Wines by the Rathbone family in 2005.

You can’t eat awards, but they do give an indication of what to expect. Xanadu is one of the most awarded restaurants in Western Australia’s most popular tourism destinations. Xanadu’s awards include WA Winery Restaurant of the Year 2008, WA Tourism Winery of the Year 2007, Gold Plate Best Restaurant Within a Winery 2003, 2007 and 2009 and Best Licensed Dining, Country 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 (Prix D’Honneur in 2007). The key to our award winning restaurant has not just been the uncompromising focus on fresh local and seasonal produce, but it’s also the setting. The climate and landscape that make this a great vineyard also create the perfect setting in which to enjoy our food and, above all, our wine. High timber ceilings, a double sided fireplace built from local stone and indoor and outdoor spaces that can cater for anything from a private function for 15 people up to a gala event for 250. So, weddings, parties or just a simple, but memorable lunch for two.

Xanadu is situated 280km south west of Perth in Western Australia. It is the closest winery to the Margaret River township. After traveling through the town along the Bussell Highway, turn right at the roundabout onto Boodjidup Road. Follow Boodijup Road for about 4km until you see the Xanadu sign and iron gates on the right.
