In Detail
Highway Wines was established in 1954 by migrant Tony Bakranich, who arrived in WA as a 16-year-old in 1930. The present property produced its first wine in 1954, Tony teaching himself winemaking and also working at the Midland railway workshops in those days, and son Velko joined the business with wife Helen in 1960. Vintage Port is the most popular drop in Highway's fortified range, with all the grapes coming from the family's 10.5 hectare vineyard - which produces more than 100 tonnes of fruit each year. All sales are through the cellar door.
