Happs Wines is one of the pioneers of the Margaret River wine industry; for over 35 years it has offered a warm and rustic welcome to all who visit along with the largest range of wines in the region.
Back in 1970s two young teachers named Erl and Ros Happ were inspired by the notion that world class wines might be produced in the Margaret River region. At the time new grape varieties were becoming more readily available in WA and this encouraged the couple to not only plant the usual cultivars that became a mark of the region but to experiment with unusual selections that presented more risk.
This pioneering spirit has paid off. Commencing in 1978, the Happs family winery has become a hallmark of combining science and art to create unique wines of distinctive quality and a loyal following. Today the estate vineyards produce more than thirty grape varieties and a comprehensive portfolio of wines sold nationally and exported around the world.
Along with many, we are believers that great wines are made in the vineyard. Our entire range is produced from estate grown fruit and our two vineyard locations offer a diversity of soil type and climatic influence. Our northern Dunsborough site enjoys a warmer growing season of rich and ripe qualities while the southern ‘Three Hills’ property brings cooler-climate elegance and finesse to the harvest each vintage.
Happs Wines has a unique portfolio of wines comprised of three distinct ranges:
The image on our Happs label represents the layered landscape of the stunning Northern Capes region; from the curve of Geographe Bay up to the ridge and sky. This panorama can be seen first-hand at our Dunsborough Cellar Door, set in native bushland and picturesque gardens high on the crest of Commonage Road. The location of Happs winery manifests a strong sense of place and the creativity born out of an affiliation with the natural world. Erl is an avid scientist, Ros a passionate gardener; the entire family a patron of the arts. This joining of nature, wine and art can be enjoyed at our cellar door, art & pottery galleries and within every glass of Happs wine.
A creative series that eschews the use of oak; these wines reflect the vineyard and are bottled young and fresh to emphasise primary fruit flavours and aromas. The indigenous art featured on the label changes with each vintage, endorsing the idea that individuality in wine is a product of the local environment and carries the native imprint of a particular place.
Three Hills Collection
Three Hills is a collection reserved for the best wines from the best years out of our Three Hills vineyard. Particular attention is given to selecting each small parcel of fruit that will be artfully combined during blending to create a wine worthy of this collection. If you are interested in ‘state of the art’ wines with cellaring potential, ask for Three Hills.
