In Detail

Burch Family Wines has officially opened its new 'Wine Chapel', an innovative tasting space at the Howard Park winery in Margaret River.

The Wine Chapel is a premium, high end tasting room designed to enhance the wine experience for both domestic and international visitors to the Margaret River Region.

Offering the ultimate sensory experience by showcasing the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of a working winery, the Chapel invites guests to 'venture behind the scenes and discover the process from fruit to bottles with a tour through our winery, then relax in your very own tasting room'.

The Chapel specifically caters for the Chinese market, with an audio-visual presentation in Mandarin, translated tasting notes and an optional Mandarin-speaking translator for pre-arranged bookings.

Burch Family Wines also intends to hire a permanent Mandarin-speaking staff member to work at the Wine Chapel and cellar door in future.

Amy Burch, Owner and General Manager of Burch Family Wines, said that the Wine Chapel was a place to relax and enjoy a tasting in private.

"[The new Wine Chapel] allows guests to savour the tastes of award winning wines in their very own private tasting room, with a private terrace and views out over the Leston vineyard and the rolling hills of the Wilyabrup region, in Margaret River.

"Visitors can join one of three weekly tours or book the space for themselves and customise their experience with a chef cooked lunch, cheese tasting plates, barrel or museum stock tastings" said Ms Burch.

Augusta Margaret River Tourism (AMRTA) CEO Pip Close said the Wine Chapel was an exciting and innovative new tourism product for the Margaret River Region.

"On behalf of the AMRTA, I heartily congratulate Burch Family Wines on the initiation and successful completion of such a unique and interesting tourism product.

"The Burch family is certainly a dynamic and progressive player in the wine tourism industry in Margaret River, and we applaud them for their vision," said Ms Close.

The Wine Chapel is aligned with the Federal Government's National Long Term Tourism Strategy (Tourism 2020) and the China 2020 Plan which aim to enhance the quality of tourism offerings, increase the Chinese inbound tourism market and position Australia as a quality food and beverage destination.
