Nature
Armadale is ‘naturally yours’ – try bushwalking in Bungendore Park and Settlers Common. These areas are home to rare flora and fauna and great places to visit during the spring wildflower season. The Visitor Centre has information and maps on the many walk trails in the area.
Want to picnic in the Hills or have a family BBQ? Why not visit one of our many refreshing, well equipped dams or parks such as Araluen Botanic Park. Armadale is home to the Armadale Reptile Centre with its great variety of Australian animals on display. Also waiting for you to visit is Cohunu Koala Park, where you can have your picture taken cuddling a koala. Throughout the hills of Roleystone are Orchards with seasonally fresh fruits – some offer TOURS of their orchards for your natural enjoyment.
Museums
Visitors to Armadale can gain an insight into the early years of our City by visiting History House and the Bert Tyler Vintage Machinery Museum. Each one contains collections to fascinate, intrigue and educate the visitor. The Replica Old Post Office at the Visitor Centre has a display by the Morsecodian Society. The Birtwistle Local Studies Library, situated in Armadale Central Shopping Centre, is open for your exploration and enjoyment. A journey through the past, so close, so unexpected!
Events
Armadale is home to many events throughout the year including the Australia Day Fireworks, Summer Cinema events, Hills Heartbeat Festival, Minnawarra Festival, Kelmscott Annual Show, Armadale Cycle Classic and the Scottish Highland Gathering - the only one of its kind in Western Australia. Champion Lakes - Armadale
The only purpose built rowing, dragon boating and kayaking facility in WA. Also facilitating Triathlons, Open Water Swimming and Cycling, the Champion Lakes Centre is home to local, state and national events. The public can utilise the public beach for swimming, the lake for recreational paddling and the pathways for cycling or walking. Opening in March 2011 is the Armadale Aboriginal Interpretive Centre. The project will provide a public outdoor amphitheatre with change rooms, an interpretive trail which includes bush tucker and medicine plants and a prominent canopy of Nyoongar artworks.
The Aboriginal Interpretive Centre will provide a place for local Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal visitors to meet, celebrate and showcase Aboriginal culture. The indigenous community have played a huge role in the design of the centre, to ensure it represents their people and a place of reconciliation.
