Homes Series Staff Writer

Scoop Digital is Western Australia's premier magazine publisher. We have a team of more than 30 staff dedicated to producing international-standard magazine and online products.

Our current product portfolio includes the state's nine leading lifestyle, homes and travel titles, as well as a premium web offering and map series.

A position has opened up for a staff writer to join our cohesive and experienced team.

Your primary responsibility will be to coordinate the production of our Homesannual series, including Scoop Homes, Kitchens & Bathrooms,Outdoors & Gardens, and Commercial Building & Design. In addition, you will assist the editor of Scoop Homes & Art by planning and coordinating the quarterly kitchens and bathroom section, as well as taking on any additional features where required.

In your cover letter, please demonstrate how you meet the following criteria:

  • Knowledge of the home building and design industry will be favourably regarded.
  • A minimum of 3-4 years' experience in print media, with proven feature writing skills.
  • Enthusiasm for and confidence in speaking face-to-face and over the phone with industry professionals.
  • A confident communicator who can hold their own in the industry and be able to produce high-quality research and copy – fast.
  • Ability to meet editorial objectives and copy deadlines.
  • A keen design sense and the ability to work closely with designers to achieve distinctive layouts.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of industry through print and online media.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and InDesign.
  • Experience in online media (website and newsletter development, social media) will be favourably regarded.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with the Homes editor and editorial team, planning and coordinating all material published in the Homes annual series.
  • Staying well informed of developments and events within the homes and design industry – locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Developing and maintaining strong industry relationships, including representingScoop at multiple events after hours.
  • Writing stories and developing them for our target market.
  • Liaising with designers, advertising department, photographers, writers and copy editors.
  • Planning and coordinating the kitchens and bathrooms section in the Scoop Homes & Art quarterly publication.
