Perth Venue- Fremantle Prison

Perth Venue- Fremantle Prison

Prison shows - we all love them, from American series Orange is the New Black to Australian drama Wentworth. So it should come as no surprise that Fremantle Prison’s functions and events calendar is booming.

The prison, built by the convicts in the 1850s and decommissioned as an operating maximum security prison in 1991, is the only World Heritage-listed building in Western Australia, and one of 11 historical sites around the nation which form the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Property.

This unique history creates a dramatic atmosphere for a wide range of events, including gala dinners, weddings, murder-mystery nights, and corporate team-building events and functions.

The Main Cell Block is a stunning limestone building split into four cell divisions with large double doors between each to customise it to suit your group size. The Commissariat offers an intimate setting, with two stylish underground rooms, thick limestone walls and atmospheric lighting.

If you’re looking for something a little more industrial, the East Workshops, built to provide activity for inmates and a training ground for unskilled prisoners, are perfect for presentations, awards nights, product launches and music events. Event organisers can even elect to arrange specialised highlights tours of the prison as an option for guests prior to any event.

The prison has a strong record of award wins, and in 2015 won two prestigious awards in the categories of Major Tourist Attraction and Cultural Tourism at the Western Australian Tourism Awards.
