Located in the iconic, redeveloped Perry Lakes Athletics stadium complex, this east-facing home’s front elevation commands attention with its intelligent use of timber, rammed-earth walls and rendered brickwork. Perched on a 375sqm block, it’s built up off the street level to incorporate a window to the undercroft games room with wine cellar.
The impressive design was made possible due to the hard work from the team at Daniel Cassettai Design, and Austurban Homes, who constructed the home.
When Daniel Cassettai met with the clients, they requested a modern yet edgy family home with a line-up of quality amenities. These included a formal separate living area that could be used as a library; games room and cellar; a smooth transition between internal and external spaces; a master bedroom with a discrete ensuite and dressing room; a guest bedroom; and two secondary bedrooms with a combined kids’ retreat/study area.
The ground level consists of a library, kitchen, living and dining area with full-height (two-storey) glazing on the southern side of the house to absorb maximum natural light in the living areas. Glazed walls are on the north of the home to exploit exposure to the northern sun in winter.
A double garage, accessed off the laneway, opens to the utility drop-off zone, where the client’s children can hang schoolbags and put away sporting equipment and shoes.
There is also a small bathroom and laundry in this area.
The upper level is home to the four bedrooms, including the master suite with
the ensuite and dressing room behind timber-clad walls, which also doubles as the headboard for the bed.
The outlook from the upper floor is onto a roof garden rather than the typical unsightly lower roofs and associated flashings.
