Denmark Adventure Race
Explore the Great Southern
Denmark, Great Southern Region of Western Australia, October 9-10, 2010
Adventure racing is an exciting multi discipline sport that is experiencing massive growth in Australia as a new way to
exercise and enjoy the great outdoors.
The Denmark Adventure Race is designed to bring together the greatest parts of this exhilarating event format and make it
achievable by the broadest participant base. As such, the event will capture the attention of the outdoor sports community
along with media exposure and interest that follows events that push the extremes.
What is an Adventure Race?
• Often referred to as ‘off road triathlons’, adventure race events involve a variety of outdoor sports such as mountain
biking, running / trekking, abseiling, climbing, kayaking… completed in succession over ‘off road’ terrain.
• Events are typically held in stunning locations and lead competitors on a journey through spectacular scenery.
• Have a friendly, non-competitive atmosphere where participants engage because they enjoy the challenges, the
adventures and the rewards they deliver.
Event format
The Denmark Adventure Race is held over two days that is custom designed for beginner / intermediate level athletes.
• Two days of racing covering over 200km of mixed terrain.
The race includes the following disciplines all completed in beautiful wilderness settings; running, ocean/river paddling,
mountain biking, navigation and ropes activities.
• Starts and finishes in Denmark’s picturesque town centre.
The course is kept secret from competitors until the race briefing 12hours before race start where they are given maps
and checkpoint details.
• Teams of four athletes with option of only 3 team mates on the course at any one time.
Teams create a terrific atmosphere whilst making the event more accessible to less experienced competitors.
• Two multi-discipline stages over the two days, so competitors get a break overnight.
Teams race and complete stage one on Saturday (expected 10-16hrs), and then stage 2 on Sunday (expected 7-12hrs).
• Challenging navigation on a completely unmarked course.
Each team needs to be self sufficient with its own equipment and support crew to help with logistics.
• Captures the attention of the media and wider outdoor sports community.
Being a spectacular event in a beautiful location, the event captures high levels of media with the general public and
outdoor sports enthusiasts.
