Brans Antiques and Art
35th Anniversary Exhibition
September 3rd – 30th, 2010
30-34 Glyde Street, Mosman Park, Perth, Western Australia

The collection of a lifetime...

Some of the finest and most important furniture and works of art ever to be shown in Perth.
– A milestone for one of Australia’s leading Antique and Art dealers.

In September the Mosman Park based Brans Antiques and Art will be celebrating 35 years with a rare exhibition that will include some of the finest and most important furniture and works of art ever to be shown in Perth. Many items will be shown for the first time and are of a calibre rarely seen in Western Australia.

The ‘invitation only’ opening night is Thursday September 2nd, and the exhibition will then run until September 30th.

The exhibition will include some exceptional examples of European furniture, English furniture, Japanese Meiji period sculpture and European bronze and marble sculpture. It will include a wonderful marble by renowned French sculptor, Alfred Boucher 1850 – 1934 (mentor to Camille Claudel and friend of Auguste Rodin), An exceptional Japanese silver and lacquer sensor from the imperial workshops, and a number of important English and European pieces of furniture just to name a few highlights.

The pieces have been collected from around the world over time and have been held back specifically for this exhibition. The collection demonstrates Brans’ sophisticated knowledge to uncover these rare and important pieces, and their courage to choose only the finest and most notable work. These pieces are works of art and transcend their era, making them as much at home in a contemporary setting as in an environment of their period.

It’s a privilege to have an exhibition of this calibre in Western Australia and to share Brans’ genuine passion and high-end knowledge.

Shift in trend

In a world of mass production and streamlined modernity, we’re seeing a shift in trend back to the ‘hand made’ and the unique character of items that are original and authentic.
This is accentuated by the idea that antiques are an environmental choice. Preferring to ‘tread lightly’ Brans supports ‘Antiques are green’, a not-for-profit movement highlighting the sustainable, re-usable and re-saleable benefits of their product. “invest in the future, recycle the past”.

Background : Who are Brans Antiques and Art?

A love for antiques and art has been in the Brans’ family blood for 3 generations, and this passion for truly unique and beautiful works of art has only strengthened over time.

Based in Mosman Park, Western Australia, Brans Antiques and Art is run by the father/son team of Clive and John Brans with help from the whole family and their staff. Whilst Clive Brans started the business 35 years ago he is now equally joined by the expertise of his son, John, allowing him to spend more time behind the scenes. John inherited his passion and after completing university has developed a reputation as one of Australia’s leading Antiques and Art specialists.

John has been instrumental in broadening the business’s areas of interest and knowledge, particularly into the area of sculpture and Japanese works of art. While Brans previously focused mainly on early furniture from England and continental Europe, they have continued to develop knowledge and expertise in such specialised areas as Chinese porcelain, Japanese sculpture and works of art, European sculpture and paintings, rugs and tapestries and Australian art.

Although they have particular areas of focus, their tastes are broad and extend from Antiquity to Modernity with the common themes of good design, high quality and original condition.
The business of finding that truly special piece can be thrilling. Traveling extensively all over the world, dealing with the world’s top auction houses and finding specialized contacts in far reaching places has allowed them to develop a very unique knowledge base that has placed Brans at the top of their game.

Brans Antiques and Art is now recognised as a leader in the Australian Antiques industry.

This rare family business is a refreshing mix of passion, integrity and knowledge. They personally select their pieces, based on their originality and beauty, from a wide variety of sources across Australia and all over the world. They are unashamedly fussy, believing that a good collection is as much about what you reject as it is about what you choose to purchase.

They travel extensively to handle each item in the name of quality control and spend a great deal of time looking over things, torch in hand or researching back at the office.

Their specialty lies in sourcing exceptional furniture and works of art from all over the world to present to their local private clientele, and discovering items of importance within Australia to present to the international trade. They consider it an important part of their role to advise and direct clients to make purchases suitable to the enhancement of their collection, and equally enjoy assisting them with all steps of the process to use their collection to create a more beautiful home to live in.
