A fashion ‘Renaissance’ is unveiled at Torso

The Autumn Winter 2010 collection from renowned Australian designer Alice McCall has been unveiled at Torso, The Mezz.
A favourite with gals who like their fashion feminine and edgy, the alice MCCALL label has been seen adorned by style queens such as Diane Kruger, Chloe Sevigny and Natalie Imbruglia.
Entitled ‘The Harlem Renaissance’, the latest season collection draws on inspiration from this period in history where the influence of literature, culture and music became part of mainstream life.
Through the use of ‘Macrame Knotting’ which is the art of intertwining weave into fabric, the collection emphasises feminine shoulders and an hourglass figure.
A romantic colour palette of antique florals, robin-reds and dusty rose along with butter soft leather, haberdashery and floral jacquard detailing work to evoke an air of renaissance as they appear across baby doll dresses, short hem lined skirts and peasant blouses.
Also featured in the collection are striking prints, including a pretty ornate duck print and mono chrome prints ala 21st century ‘Queen of Punk’ Debbie Harry, with embellishments also playing an important part in telling the tale.
Strong feminine shapes shown in short neat tulip hems that are draped or tucked and buxom full dresses with cinched-in waists continue the Renaissance theme.
A clever piece is the modern day trans seasonal trench which can be transformed from a coat to a crop with the undo of a button, as a cocoon felt coat featuring luxurious gold tabbing is just the thing to ward off the winter chill.
