A Day in Pompeii set to welcome 100,000th visitor!
A Day in Pompeii is expected to welcome its 100,000 visitor in the next few days with less than two weeks before the popular exhibition draws to a close on Sunday 12 September.
WA Museum CEO Alec Coles said this would be a record attendance for an exhibition at the Museum and a fitting testament to an extraordinary display.
“It is a clear indication of this State’s appetite for quality exhibitions at their Museum and we look forward to welcoming the 100,000th visitor very soon,” Mr Coles said.
“A Day in Pompeii has been exceptionally popular among all age groups since it opened in Perth in May. In fact, figures rose sharply over the weekend – we are now averaging over 1000 visitors per day.
“With a range of unique exhibits on show, there’s something for everyone from fishing fanatics who will get a real kick out of the ancient hooks and fishing equipment, to fashion enthusiasts, drawn to the ornate jewellery and Roman beauty practices. There’s also plenty for children to see and do, including making their own gladiator helmet and following the Junior Explorer’s Trail around the exhibits.
“The exhibition was originally secured in Melbourne with exclusive rights in Australia. Perth is the only other Australian host city which is a major coup for the State and a rare opportunity for Western Australian exhibition-goers.
“As we approach the last days of Pompeii, I strongly encourage all Western Australians to take advantage of this rare exhibition while they still can.”
Mr Coles said that A Day in Pompeii had taken on a number of different dimensions.
“We’ve had gladiator performances in the Perth Cultural Centre, a special lecture series, Friday night openings and, more recently, animated lava on the Museum steps,” he said.
“I appreciate the valuable contributions from our sponsors who have helped to bring these added activities to life and make the Pompeii experience even richer.”
Tickets are available through BOCS Ticketing or from the A Day in Pompeii ticketing desk at the WA Museum.
The exhibition is showing daily at the WA Museum – Perth until September 12, 2010.
A Day in Pompeii is presented by the Western Australian Museum and Eventscorp and exhibited by the Soprintendenza Speciale per I Beni Archeologici di Napoli e Pompei (SANP) and Museum Victoria.
