Description

Bar Rock Lookout and Australia Rock are two popular destinations in Narooma, New South Wales, Australia, offering breathtaking ocean views and unique rock formations.

Bar Rock Lookout provides an ideal vantage point to enjoy the stunning ocean view, with outlooks over the breakwalls, Montague Island, Bar Beach, and the Wagonga Inlet. Visitors can access the lookout via a short walk and enjoy the view from the top of the rock formation or venture down to the beach.

From the lookout, a steep staircase leads to the start of the southern breakwall and Australia Rock, a hole in the rockface that resembles the shape of the Australian continent. The formation is believed to be a result of thousands of years of erosion or the inadvertent creation from mooring a ship with large chains. Australia Rock is part of the Narooma Accretionary Complex and Chevron Folds, formed by the pressure from the Pacific Plate's collision with the land. It is also a great location for panoramic photographs and picnics. Australia Rock offers excellent photo opportunities, especially during sunrise and sunset when the light shines through the hole. Visitors can also observe the impressive geology of the area and the marine life that inhabits it.

To reach Bar Rock Lookout and Australia Rock, visitors can drive or take public transportation to Narooma. The town is accessible by road, rail, and sea, with a daily coach service operating from Canberra. Once in Narooma, the lookout is a 15-minute walk from the town center, located at the southern end of the breakwater. The rock formation
