Description

Greenfields Wetlands Mawson Lakes is a constructed wetland located in Salisbury, just 15 km from Adelaide's central business district.

It is a popular attraction for wildlife lovers and photo enthusiasts. The wetland features a 12m tall boomerang sculpture, "Together Woven," and offers a serene space to observe over 25 species of aquatic plants and over 160 reported bird species, as well as other creatures that live in and around the water.

Visitors can enjoy bird watching, photography, and picnicking at the wetlands. There are self-guided tours with interpretive signs along the trail, covering 1.3 kilometers. The wetlands can be accessed freely, but some sections require a key from The Watershed Café. The wetlands are open year-round from 8 am to 4 pm.

To get to Greenfields Wetlands, visitors can enter from Salisbury Highway at Mawson Lakes or Magazine Road at Dry Creek. The site is also accessible by public transport. Visitors are advised to respect the environment by keeping noise levels low, staying on designated paths, not feeding wildlife, and removing litter. Pets are not allowed, and fishing is prohibited. Visitors should also be aware of snake safety and ensure they have sun protection and appropriate footwear.

Greenfields Wetlands Mawson Lakes is one of Australia's first large constructed urban wetlands. The development began in the early 1980s and was completed in stages, with the goal of providing flood protection, improving water quality, and enhancing the landscape.
