Discover one of the park's most dramatic features that has been shaped by running water over tens of thousands of years.

The Amphitheatre Walk is located in the Carnarvon Gorge section of the Carnarvon National Park, in central Queensland's Sandstone Wilderness, which is halfway between Emerald and Roma. The walk is situated 8.6km from the visitor area, which is 1.2km from the main gorge track. The start and finish points of the Amphitheatre Walk are the same, and you must return via the same path. The walk branches off the main gorge track and continues for 630m to the Amphitheatre site.

To get to Carnarvon Gorge from Roma, you need to drive 90km north to Injune and then further 160km along the Carnarvon Highway to the Carnarvon Gorge turn-off. If you are coming from Emerald, drive 65km south to Springsure, then 70km east to Rolleston, and further 61km along Carnarvon Highway to the turn-off. From here, the 45km road to the park entrance is sealed.

The Amphitheatre Walk is a 4-hour return trip that covers a distance of 8.6km. The walk is a grade 3 track and can be accessed by conventional vehicles. It is suggested that you allow 4 hours for walking time. The walk takes you through a narrow crevice that reveals a 60m chasm hidden deep inside the gorge. Scale the tiered ladder and enter the open-topped cavern and marvel at the amazing acoustics
