Description

Cape Upstart National Park, located in Guthalungra, North Queensland, Australia, holds cultural significance as the former home of the Juru Clan, part of the Birri-Gubba Tribal Group.

The park features middens and sacred sites, including stone arrangements believed to be ceremonial grounds. Lieutenant James Cook named the area Cape Upstart in 1770. In the early 20th century, Europeans began building huts in the park, which have since been replaced by permanent structures. In 2011, the Juru People were granted Native Title over Cape Upstart National Park after a twenty-year struggle. Visitors can explore and learn about indigenous culture and history in the park.
